In ‘Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise,’ PBS presents what is, surprisingly, the first feature documentary on the life and writings of the poet, singer, dancer, memoirist, activist. It is a vital, visual archive, including interview footage, rare photographs, and truly moving video.
Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise is the first feature film based on the life and writings of the poet, singer, dancer, memoirist, and activist. Filmmakers Bob Hercules and Rita Coburn Whack present rare archival photographs and videos, as well as interview footage with Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Common, Alfre Woodard, Cicely Tyson, Quincy Jones, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, John Singleton and Dr. Angelou’s son, Guy Johnson. The film has premiered to critical acclaim at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, won the Audience Award at AFI Docs, been featured at notable film festivals worldwide, won 17 awards on three continents, and most recently has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award.
